Guillermo Cortez is honored to serve as the new principal of Hector P. Garcia Elementary and brings 21 years of experience in education. He began his career in Irving ISD, where he spent 13 years serving as both a teacher and assistant principal.

For the past seven years,Mr. Cortez served as principal of Anson Jones Elementary in Dallas ISD. During his tenure, he proudly led a campus with a 97% economically disadvantaged student population to achieve a “B” accountability rating, earning all six academic distinctions, and demonstrating 89% academic growth.

This past year, he devoted time to supporting his family while also mentoring and coaching a principal in a neighboring district. Mr. Cortez is excited to join the Garcia Family and is committed to ensuring that every child learns, grows, and reaches their full potential.
